“Liquid Truth” is a documentary about a critical moment in the life of the Athabasca River – the struggle between conservation and development, between water and oil.
It began as a simple film concept to follow a hypothetical drop of water from the Columbia Icefields to Lake Athabasca and observe the impact of human activity en route. But in the course of the journey, the production team discovered what really is at stake. Expert witnesses spoke about shrinking glaciers, snow pack changes, sharply reduced seasonal water levels, unprecedented water withdrawal occurring in the Fort McMurray region and new studies indicating that mega-droughts have occurred in Alberta in the past.
